A Companion Guide

How the Well Works

This is a quiet tour — no rush, no pressure. Read what calls to you, return when you need to. The well will make more sense the longer you spend with it.

01 — What It Is

What WishingWell Is

WishingWell is a place to speak what you carry — not to a person, not to a page, but to something that listens without judgment and returns something meaningful in kind.

It is not a journal. It is not a task list or a planner. It does not ask you to be productive or consistent. It simply asks you to show up when something is on your mind — a memory, a moment, a feeling that hasn't found its shape yet — and to give it words.

"Every memory you share adds to something only you can build. When the well has enough, it will show you what your life already knows."

Over time, your words gather. The well holds them. And when enough has accumulated, it forges something back — a reflection drawn from the patterns in what you've shared. Not a summary. An insight.

WishingWell is best understood not by reading about it, but by using it. Start with one memory. That is always enough.

02 — The Practice

Entering the Well

When you open WishingWell, you'll find the well at the center of the screen. Tapping it begins a session — a quiet moment between you and what you've been carrying.

You'll be asked a simple question first: is this memory from the past, or the present?

Past memories are things that have already happened — experiences, moments, seasons of your life that have shaped who you are. They don't need to be significant. Small memories often carry the most.

Present memories are what you're moving through right now — what you're feeling today, what you're navigating, what you're noticing about your life as it unfolds.

A third option — Return to a memory — appears when the well has something worth revisiting. It will surface an earlier memory and invite you to go deeper. Not every session will offer this; it appears when it has something to show you.

Once you've chosen, you can speak or type — whatever feels most natural in that moment. The well asks for a minimum of fifty words — enough to give a memory real shape. There is no upper limit. Say what needs to be said, and stop when you're done.

  1. 1

Tap the well on the home screen to begin a session.

  2. 2

Choose whether the memory is from the past, the present, or return to deepen an earlier one.

  3. 3

Speak or type — the microphone icon activates voice capture. Tap it to begin, tap again to finish.

  4. 4

When you're done, save the memory. It is now part of your cycle.

There's no wrong way to do this. The companion doesn't grade your entries. It listens, and it remembers.

03 — The Rhythm

The Cycle

The well works in cycles. Each memory you save adds weight to your current cycle — think of it as the well slowly filling with what you've given it.

You can see the progress of your current cycle in the progress bar at the bottom of the home screen. It reflects how much you've contributed toward the next stone. When it reaches completion, a stone is ready to be forged.

Cycles are not on a timer. They fill as you contribute. Some cycles may complete in a few sittings. Others take longer. There's no right pace — the well adapts to you, not the other way around.

"The well doesn't rush. Neither should you."

Once a cycle completes, you'll be prompted to cast your stone — to seal what you've gathered and receive the reflection it has shaped. After casting, a new cycle begins, ready to receive whatever comes next.

04 — The Return

Your Stone & Reflection

When a cycle completes and you cast your stone, the well returns something to you: a reflection. This is not a summary of your memories. It is something drawn from the patterns across them — the themes that surfaced, the tensions that repeated, the understanding that only becomes visible when your words are gathered whole.

Reflections are shaped by the lens you've chosen. Each lens asks different questions of your memories and returns a different kind of insight. More on the lenses below.

Once forged, a stone is permanent. The memories that shaped it are sealed as they were — they become part of your record, not subject to revision. This is intentional. The well values the honest record of where you were, not a polished version of it.

You can return to any stone in your timeline at any time. The reflections don't expire. Some will mean more the second time you read them than they did the first.

05 — The Perspective

The Three Lenses

WishingWell sees your memories through one of three lenses. Each lens represents a different way of understanding a life — a different question it asks of what you've shared.

Wealth

The lens of abundance and lack. What have you built, lost, protected, or longed for? Wealth asks what your memories reveal about how you relate to resources — time, energy, security, and what you value most.

Power

The lens of agency and influence. Where have you felt in control, or powerless? Power asks what your memories reveal about how you navigate authority, voice, and your ability to shape the circumstances around you.

Wisdom

The lens of meaning and pattern. What recurring themes have emerged across your memories? Wisdom draws understanding from the questions you keep returning to and what they reveal about who you are becoming.

When your cycle is ready, the Well screen will ask you to choose a lens before casting your stone. The lens you select in that moment shapes the reflection you receive. Over time, you may find that different lenses illuminate different seasons of your life.

06 — The Record

Your Timeline

Everything you've given the well lives in your timeline. You can access it from the bottom navigation. There you'll find each memory you've saved and each stone you've forged, in the order they occurred.

Individual memories can be reviewed at any time. Stones can be read in full — each contains the reflection it carried and a record of the memories that shaped it. Reading a past stone is often a different experience than it was when first forged — the distance of time has a way of making things clearer.

Your timeline is yours alone. It is private, it is complete, and it grows with you for as long as you use the well.

07 — Privacy

What the Well Keeps

Your privacy matters to the well. Here is what is stored and what is not.

Voice is not recorded. When you speak a memory aloud, your words are transcribed in the moment. The audio itself is never saved. What enters your record is the text of what you said — nothing more.

Your memories are yours. The content of your memories — what you write or speak — is stored privately under your account. It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with third parties for any purpose beyond what powers the well itself. The AI processing that listens and reflects is covered in our AI Disclosure.

Stones are permanent. Once a stone is forged, the memories sealed within it are locked as they were at that moment. This protects the integrity of your record over time.

Account deletion is available. If you wish to close your account, a deletion option is available in your settings. For complete removal of all stored data, contact us at support@wishingwellreflections.com.

08 — The Threshold

Keeping the Well Close

WishingWell lives best on your home screen — opened with a single tap, free of browser bars, ready when something surfaces. On iPhone, adding it takes only a moment.

  1. 1

Open WishingWell in Safari. In the bottom-right of the screen, tap the circle with three dots () — Safari's page menu.

  2. 2

From the menu that appears, tap Share.

  3. 3

Scroll the share sheet and tap View More to reveal the full list of actions.

  4. 4

Choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add to confirm.

The well will now sit among your apps. Opening it from the home screen launches the full experience — no browser, no distractions, just the well and what you bring to it.

09 — Questions

Questions & Answers

How long should my memories be?

At least fifty words — enough to give the memory real substance. There's no maximum. The well doesn't reward length for its own sake, but a memory needs enough weight to be worth carrying. Say what's true, say it fully, and stop when you're done.

What if I don't know whether a memory is past or present?

Trust your instinct. Past memories tend to feel like things you're looking back on. Present ones feel like something you're still inside of. If it could go either way, choose the one that fits most of the time.

Does it matter how often I use the well?

Consistency helps the cycle fill, but there is no minimum requirement. Some people use the well daily. Others return every few days or when something significant surfaces. The well holds whatever pace feels natural to you.

What if my reflection doesn't resonate?

That's allowed. Not every reflection will land immediately. Sometimes the meaning comes later — when you re-read it weeks or months on. If it feels off, that's worth noting too. The well is a long conversation, not a single exchange.

Can I skip casting a stone when a cycle completes?

The stone will wait for you. When your cycle completes, there's no pressure to cast immediately. Return when it feels right.

Can I change my lens?

Your lens is chosen on the Well screen at the moment you cast a stone. Each time your cycle is ready, you'll be asked which lens to cast through. The stones you've already forged remain shaped by the lens that was active at the time.

Is there a limit to how many memories I can cast?

There's no cap on memories overall — the well accumulates what you give it over time. On any single day, the well can hold up to a certain volume of words before it asks you to return tomorrow. It's rare to reach that point, but it exists.

Can I edit or remove a memory after saving it?

Memories can be reviewed in your timeline at any time. Once a memory has been sealed into a completed stone, it becomes part of that permanent record. Individual memory management features are on the way.

Can someone else see what I've written?

No. Your memories are private to your account. Nothing you share with the well is visible to other users or the public.

Are my reflections private?

Yes — by default, your reflections are visible only to you. But if a reflection moves you, you can choose to share it. The well lets you post it to social media, or contribute it to our website where it may quietly encourage someone else who is just beginning their own journey.
